“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law” (Romans 3:31). Our faith doesn’t cancel God’s law. Instead, it rightly places the law in its proper role, revealing sin and pointing us to our need for grace.

“Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless. For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God” (Hebrews 7:18, 19, NLT). Christ, our “better hope,” replaces the limitations of the law and makes life infinitely more fulfilling. True access to God comes through grace, not religious ritual.

“For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power” (1 Corinthians 15:56, NLT). Sin is the direct cause of death, both spiritually and ultimately physically. This underscores the need for grace beyond the law.

“When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death” (Romans 7:5, NLT). The law that most churches teach exposes and even intensifies awareness of sin in fallen nature. Human effort alone can’t overcome sinful tendencies, which is why we need Jesus every day.

“Until John the Baptist, the law of Moses and the messages of the prophets were your guides. But now the Good News of the Kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is eager to get in” (Luke 16:16, NLT). The gospel opens access broadly and invites everyone to respond. There’s an urgency and an eagerness surrounding God’s kingdom.

“Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel’” (Mark 1:14, 15, NKJV). Countries governed according to God’s Word are prosperous and blessed, but they open themselves up to evil when they turn away and ignore the truth found in the Bible. In these last days we’re seeing clear examples of this.

“To reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being” (Galatians 1:16, NLT). God’s calling always precedes human affirmation, and, in fact, often contradicts it. When we hear from Him, our obedience often requires immediate response without dependence on others’ approval.

“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God” (Acts 20:24, NLT). We find purpose in fulfilling God’s assignment, not pursuing our own personal comfort. Jesus’ Gospel of Grace is central to our mission as believers.

  • July 29

“And so you cancel the word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. And this is only one example among many others” (Mark 7:13, NLT). Human traditions can override and nullify God’s truth if we accept them blindly without examining them carefully. He therefore warns us against elevating culture or habit above Scripture.

“For the same God who worked through Peter as the apostle to the Jews also worked through me as the apostle to the Gentiles. In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews” (Galatians 2:8, 9, NLT). God assigns different roles and callings, but all are equally important in His purpose. Unity in the body of Christ doesn’t require identical assignments; diversity of mission can still produce harmony.

And the Lord answered me, and said, write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (Habakkuk 2:2, 3).

Although this Scripture was written before Jesus came, it points to Him. God reveals to us the vision He has for our lives by writing it on the tablet of our hearts. It’s the truth because it comes straight from Him, and will be fulfilled in His time. Believing what He tells us empowers us to run when others can only crawl.

And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision (1 Samuel 3:1).

In the Old Testament, messages from God to the people were rare. His Spirit hadn’t yet been given to the general population, but God spoke to Samuel because Samuel’s heart was turned toward Him. We now have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints (Ephesians 1:17, 18).

When we get born again, God reveals to us who He is, and who we are in Christ. We receive our divine inheritance as God’s children, and a hope that the world does not have. Our spiritual eyes are opened, and we receive His wisdom.

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you (Psalm 91:5-7, NKJV).

The world is a violent, spiritually dark place; if we focus on everything going on around us instead of on God’s Word, our courage will fail us. We can be confident that God will never let evil overcome us.

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?... It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes” (Psalm 118:6, 8, 9).

When we trust God in all situations, there’s no need to worry about anything others do. Putting our confidence in Him gives us divine protection and frees us from fear.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength (Isaiah 26:3, 4).

Trusting in just anyone brings its own set of risks, because trust involves being open and making ourselves vulnerable. However, when we trust in God, He’ll never let us down. He gives us His peace and His strength when we rely on Him.

He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord (Psalm 112:7).

No matter where we look, there’s always some upheaval or crisis somewhere in the world. Putting our trust in what we see is like trusting in quicksand; when we entrust our hearts to God, our Rock, we won’t be swayed or knocked down.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

When something bad happens that we don’t understand, we know that God will ultimately cause good to come out of it. Regardless of what it looks like at the time, when we trust in His Word, everything turns out well in the end.

Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble (Psalm 119:165, NKJV).

God’s law is the law of love; when we walk in the kind of love Jesus teaches us, we find a peace that transcends all understanding. Following in His footsteps keeps us safe and secure.
